🌴 How to Play the Belize Word Game 🐢

The Goal

Guess the secret Belize-themed word before you run out of tries. The word will always relate to Belize — its culture, nature, food, places, animals, or history (like RIVER, MAYAN, CONCH, REEFS, JAGUAR, etc.).

Setting Up

At the top of the game, choose your Mode:

• Easy (4) – 4-letter words (great for beginners and younger students)
• Standard (5) – 5-letter words (the classic challenge)
• Challenge (6–7) – longer, trickier words
• Teacher List – a special set of words chosen by the teacher

You can press 🎲 New Word anytime to start over with a fresh word, 💡 Hint if you’re stuck, or ⛶ Fullscreen to make the game bigger.

How to Type Your Guess

1. Use the on-screen keyboard at the bottom (or your real keyboard) to type a word.
2. Each letter fills one box on the current row.
3. When your guess is complete, press ENTER to submit it.
4. Made a mistake? Press ⌫ (Backspace) to delete a letter before submitting.

Your guess must have the exact number of letters shown by the empty boxes.

Reading the Color Clues

After you press ENTER, each letter changes color to give you a clue:

• 🟩 Green = Correct letter in the correct spot. Keep it there!
• 🟨 Yellow/Orange = The letter is in the word, but in a different position. Try moving it.
• ⬜ Gray = The letter is not in the word at all. Don’t use it again.

The on-screen keyboard also colors itself the same way, so you can quickly see which letters you’ve already tried.

How Many Tries Do You Get?

You get 6 guesses to figure out the word. Use the clues from each guess to narrow down the answer.

A Quick Example (Standard Mode)

The secret word is RIVER.

1. Guess MAYAN → all gray ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜ (none of those letters are in the word)
2. Guess CONCH → all gray ⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜
3. Guess REEFS → 🟩🟨⬜⬜⬜ (R is in the right spot; E is in the word but somewhere else)
4. Guess RIVER → 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 You win! 🎉

Tips for Beginners

• Start with a word full of common letters (vowels like A, E, I, O, U and common consonants like R, S, T, L, N) to learn a lot from the first guess.
• Think Belize! The answer will be something connected to Belize — animals (TAPIR, JAGUAR), nature (REEFS, CAYES), food (TAMAL), places, or culture (MAYAN, CREOLE).
• Use the clues. If a letter turned green, lock it into that spot in your next guess. If it turned yellow, put it somewhere else.
• Don’t repeat gray letters — they’re not in the word.
• Stuck? Tap the 💡 Hint button for a little help.

When the Game Ends

• If you guess correctly, you’ll see a “Sweet success!” message 🥭 and the word will be revealed.
• If you run out of guesses, the game will show you what the word was — and you can press 🎲 New Word to try a new one.
