Meet Our Partners
Mr. Stanley Joseph Leslie
Stella Maris School is pleased to welcome Mr. Stanley Joseph Leslie, owner of Astanstill Premium Belize Caps, as a partner and supporter of our school community. Mr. Leslie and his family also co-own The Toucan’s Nest in San Pedro, Belize. Mr. Leslie works as an IT System Administrator at the CUNY School of Law in New York. He has generously shared his skills, creativity, and ideas with Stella Maris School. As the donor, developer, and designer of our school websites and interactive educational games, he helps create new digital learning opportunities for our students. Thanks to his dedication and his family's ongoing support, Stella Maris School can continue to grow and improve its digital platform. This means students, families, teachers, and the whole community will have access to useful educational resources, inclusive technology, and interactive learning experiences. We are thankful for Mr. Leslie’s commitment to inclusive education, new ideas, and the future of all learners in Belize. Maya Mopan Government School
On Thursday, May 28, 2026, Stella Maris School welcomed students and staff from Maya Mopan Government School for a special visit focused on learning, friendship, and community. The visit gave both schools a chance to connect, share experiences, and highlight the importance of supporting every learner. The partnership between Maya Mopan Government School and Stella Maris School builds understanding, compassion, and teamwork among students and teachers. During the visit, students participated in activities and conversations that highlighted the value of unity and respect for everyone’s differences. Visits like this connect schools and encourage acceptance, kindness, and appreciation for each child’s unique strengths. Stella Maris School is thankful for the ongoing partnership with Maya Mopan Government School and looks forward to more opportunities to learn and grow together.
Bussa B Band
On Friday, May 22, 2026, students and staff at Stella Maris School welcomed Griga’s Bussa B Band for a special celebration of music, culture, and joy. The school quickly filled with Garifuna rhythms, laughter, dancing, and excitement. Bussa B Band brought more than music. They shared culture, energy, kindness, and love. Students clapped, danced, smiled, and enjoyed the powerful sounds of Garifuna culture. The band members interacted with students, encouraged participation, and made every child feel included and celebrated. The celebration reminded everyone how important culture, community, and inclusion are and how joyful experiences matter for all children. It was a wonderful day full of fun, laughter, music, and memories that will stay with our students for years.
Pallotti High School
On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, teachers and students from Pallotti High School visited Stella Maris School to join our students and staff for a weekly devotion, renewing the special connection between our schools. The Pallotti High School Choir, led by Mrs. Cindy Crawford, shared a moving praise and worship session. Their voices brought joy, faith, and a strong sense of community to everyone present. Moments like this help keep the legacy of Stella Maris School and its bond with Pallotti High School alive. Sister Seraphio from the Pallottine Convent started Stella Maris School in 1958 when the community saw a child with viral meningitis needed help. That act of kindness grew into a school that has changed the lives of many children with different learning needs across Belize. The visit was a chance to celebrate our shared history, faith, and service. It also showed our commitment to building a stronger relationship between the two schools for years to come. Principal Doreth Pascasio Griffith and Vice-Principal Elizabeth McLaughlin both expressed their happiness at renewing and deepening the connection between Pallotti High School and Stella Maris School. Both schools continue the Pallottine Sisters’ vision by supporting inclusion, dignity, leadership, faith, and love for every child.
Hon. Valerie Woods
Stella Maris School welcomed Hon. Valerie Woods on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. Mrs. Woods, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has served since December 2020 and is known for her leadership, advocacy, and dedication to public service in Belize. During her visit, Mrs. Woods met with the administration and staff to learn about the important work Stella Maris does to support students with diverse learning needs. The school shared its mission to empower children through inclusive education, life skills, therapy, and personalized learning. Mrs. Woods has a strong background in leadership and public service, including work in tourism, conservation, and national government. She is also known for supporting women’s leadership and social inclusion in Belize and across the Caribbean. Principal Doreth Pascasio Griffith and Vice-Principal Elizabeth McLaughlin thanked Mrs. Woods for her visit and her interest in raising awareness and support for inclusive education in Belize. We value opportunities to build strong partnerships with national leaders and community advocates who help create brighter futures for children and families.

We thank AAA Imports of Orange Walk Town for their generous support during our Teacher Appreciation celebrations. They donated two $75 gift certificates for our Teacher’s Day raffle, helping us celebrate and recognize the hard work and dedication of our teachers and staff. On May 12, 2026, Stella Maris School welcomed occupational therapy students from Duke University. Their visit highlights the importance of building strong partnerships that support inclusive education, professional growth, and student development. This collaboration gave future occupational therapists the opportunity to interact with our students, observe classroom and life-skills activities, and learn about support systems that help children succeed. We at Stella Maris School sincerely thank Ms. Sherlette Gentle for her thoughtful and generous donation in loving memory of her mother, Ms. Merlene Andrews (pictured). University of Illinois Chicago
On January 13, 2026, we welcomed students from the University of Illinois Chicago Occupational Therapy Program. They joined us for two weeks to support and work with students in Rooms 1, 2, and 3.
University of Texas A&M
On Monday, January 5, 2026, Stella Maris School welcomed students from the University of Texas A&M. Dr. Carol Babb coordinated the visit, which brought together Social Work and Psychology students to learn and connect with our school community.
Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology
A team from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology met with the Stella Maris School team to discuss the Belize Education Management Information System and how it can improve data collection, reporting, and student information management. During the meeting, both sides discussed how accurate and timely data support planning, accountability, and better student outcomes. The meeting also demonstrates Stella Maris’ ongoing commitment to working with national systems and improving school operations to better support students.
Leo Bradley Library
Our students enjoyed a lively and meaningful visit to the Leo Bradley Library to celebrate Library Day with the Stella Maris School community. The day included fun activities that made learning exciting outside the classroom. Music filled the library as students sang, danced, and moved with excitement. They laughed, jumped, and workers waved bright yellow, blue, green, and red flags, making the celebration lively and memorable. This outing helped our students develop a love of reading and libraries while also allowing them to enjoy community, creativity, and self-expression. It was a memorable day for everyone.
Treasured Memories Photo Booth
Stella Maris School is happy to work with Treasured Memories Photo Booth, which brought excitement and celebration to our school community. At our Christmas Party, they kindly gave all our students free photos with their 360 photo booth, making the day fun and memorable for everyone. Students could express themselves, enjoy time with friends, and take home special keepsakes. We are thankful for their generosity and for helping us create lasting memories full of joy and celebration.

Belize Youth Movement
Stella Maris School is happy to team up with the Belize Youth Movement (BYM), which visited our school to help us raise awareness of Autism Awareness and Acceptance. After a lively school-wide Door Decoration Activity, members of BYM’s National Executive, including President Malcolm Nunez and Treasurer Matthew Romero, gave ice cream to the second-place team. This made the day more joyful and fun. Their presence reminded everyone of the importance of inclusion, kindness, and community. It was a memorable and meaningful experience for our students.
Belize Postal Service
Stella Maris School teamed up with the Belize Postal Service for Career Day. Their staff shared real-life experiences to help students learn about postal services in an engaging way. By participating, they helped students discover career options, build confidence, and learn about key community roles. We appreciate their support in preparing our students for the future.
Dr. Kendra Flores-Carter DSW
Dr. Kendra Flores-Carter, a published author, research scientist, tenured professor, consultant, NAEBOR Clinic Program Director, international public speaker, women’s and pediatric health expert, and medical social worker, visited Stella Maris School with her team on Tuesday, May 5, 2026. Dr. Flores-Carter, a proud Belizean and leader in global social work, generously donated art supplies for our students. These supplies will encourage creativity, hands-on learning, and self-expression while building our students’ confidence. Her visit showed a strong commitment to community, culture, and giving back. We are grateful for her generosity and for helping strengthen the link between global learning and local impact at Stella Maris.
University of Washington
We were happy to welcome Angel Fettig, Associate Professor of Early Childhood Special Education at the University of Washington, to Stella Maris School. During her visit, our teachers took part in a hands-on workshop on self-regulation and emotional management. They learned strategies to help students succeed. We also thank Emlyn Fettig for securing a grant and donating classroom materials that will improve teaching and learning. The Ministry of Education and Stella Maris appreciate their generosity and the way they shared their expertise with our team.
The Inspiration Center
On Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the Stella Maris School community met with the Inspiration Center Belize to find new ways to support our students. After the Easter break, the Inspiration Center began working with our school. Mr. Dana Staley has been on-site to help improve students’ physical development and well-being. This partnership shows our shared commitment to inclusion and specialized care. We appreciate this collaboration because it helps us offer more opportunities and support for every child.
Publics Supermarket
Students D.T. and S.C. participated as interns through our partnership with Publics Supermarket. We appreciated Publics for giving our older students the chance to have a valuable job shadowing experience. This hands-on experience lets students see the workplace, observe daily routines, and build important skills. We are thankful for Public’s support in offering opportunities that help students gain confidence, become more independent, and consider future careers.
Fresh Start Fresh Foods
Stella Maris School thanks Fresh Start Fresh Foods for generously donating fresh juice for our school trip to Spanish Lookout for the Commercial Industrial Expo. Your kindness helped keep our students refreshed and energized all day. We appreciate community partners like you who support our students and make these experiences more special.
Samaritan’s Purse, Operation Christmas Child
On March 7, 2026, Stella Maris School welcomed guests from Samaritan’s Purse, who brought a special gift for our students. Every child received a colorful shoebox filled with toys, school supplies, hygiene items, and other surprises, lighting up our classrooms with smiles. Samaritan’s Purse brings joy to children worldwide, including here in Belize, through their Operation Christmas Child program. Our students enjoyed a day full of excitement, laughter, and special memories. We are thankful to Samaritan’s Purse and their volunteers for their generosity and kindness. Moments like these show how much community partnerships bring joy, encouragement, and hope to every child.

Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise
We were happy to welcome Lizzet from the Rotary Club of Belize Sunrise, who hosted a special Easter Egg Hunt for our students. The children enjoyed looking for colorful eggs, laughing together, and celebrating the Easter season in a memorable way.
Councilor, Kaya Cattouse
Belize is moving toward a cleaner, more sustainable future by introducing electric buses. These buses make public transportation more efficient and more environmentally friendly. Our Stella Maris School students were excited to join this process. At our Annual Career Day, we welcomed Kaya Cattouse, a member of the Belize City Council’s Traffic Education, Public Education, and Disaster Education and Response Teams. The day was full of learning, participation, and inspiration. One highlight was our students’ first ride on the new e-Bus, which offered a scenic tour of Belize City. The experience was fun and taught important lessons about sustainability and environmental care. The visit also gave Councilor Cattouse and our Principal, Doreth Pascasio Griffith, a chance to share ideas and show their ongoing commitment to supporting children of all abilities throughout Belize.
The Marquette University
The Marquette University Speech Program’s visit to Belize was a time of learning, service, and personal growth. During their visit, the students made a difference by supporting and connecting with our learners at Stella Maris School. They shared knowledge, encouragement, and compassion in every interaction. They also visited the Belize Fisheries Department to learn about Belize’s marine resources and conservation work. This exchange helped everyone build new skills, gain a better understanding, and form lasting cross-cultural connections. We appreciated their time, dedication, and the positive energy they brought to our school.

We were happy to welcome Cakes by Karla Belize, owned by Mrs. Karla Cano Turton, to Stella Maris School. Her visit brought joy, creativity, and tasty treats to our students, making the day special for everyone. Experiences like this do more than celebrate. Tuk Tuk Belize Tours
We were happy to team up with Tuk Tuk Belize, which is owned and founded by Tanisha Vernon. Her visit brought excitement, laughter, and a memorable day for our students. During the visit, students explored and interacted with the tuk-tuk. This hands-on experience sparked curiosity and joy, brought smiles to everyone, and helped our children connect with their community in a fun way. We thank Ms. Vernon for sharing her time and passion with us. Experiences like this show that learning can be joyful, engaging, and full of great memories.

University of Belize
We value our partnership with the University of Belize. It helps us improve teaching, learning, and professional growth at Stella Maris School. Thanks to this collaboration, student teachers, interns, and volunteers support our classrooms, share ideas, and gain practical experience in inclusive education. This strengthens our programs and school community. We are especially thankful to the University of Belize for allowing us to use its campus. They have provided a safe and supportive place to learn while our building is being repaired.

Thank you, Mrs. Elda Conorquie of the Jude Belize Foundation, for your generous support in purchasing 12 handmade bracelets by Jasleen McKay, a visually impaired young woman, and for sharing them with our students. Each bracelet was made for the girls at Stella Maris School and included a special card featuring “hug me” in Braille, along with uplifting messages. Belize Coast Guard
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, Principal Doreth Pascasio Griffith thanked her uncle, Edward Lawrence, for giving Stella Maris School students the chance to attend the Belize Coast Guard Change of Command Parade. Events like this help our students learn about national traditions, explore careers, and appreciate the importance of serving their country. During the ceremony, Principal Griffith and the students were joined by The Honorable Prime Minister John Briceño, which made the day more memorable for the Stella Maris community.
Councilor Fernando Sanchez
We were pleased to welcome Mr. Fernando Sanchez from the Orange Walk Town Council to Stella Maris School on Friday, February 20, 2026. His visit was important to our students, staff, and the whole school community. We appreciate his time, encouragement, and ongoing support for our mission to serve students with diverse abilities. We are also thankful for the strong connection he shares with our Principal and his sister, Council Member, as they both work hard for the Orange Walk community.

On Wednesday, December 3, 2025, we welcomed a team from the DePaul University Speech-Language Pathology Program to our school. On March 25, 2026, Francis Fonseca, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade, Education, Culture, Science and Technology, and Cornelio Acosta, Chairman of Belize Water Services Ltd., signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a partnership between the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology and Belize Water Services Ltd. Through this partnership, Belize Water Services Ltd. has pledged nearly $100,000 to set up and equip a Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Sensory Room at Stella Maris School. This support will help the school offer more specialized, student-centered services, promote independence, and enhance each child's well-being.
