Policy Purpose

This policy underscores Stella Maris Special Education and Life Skills Learning Center’s unwavering commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) as guiding principles for our educational community, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all.

1) Scope

This policy applies to all students, staff, faculty, administrators, volunteers, and families who are part of the Stella Maris community.

2) Policy Statement

  • Diversity: We celebrate the full spectrum of human differences, including (but not limited to) race, culture, ethnicity, language, religion, gender, disability, learning styles, and socio-economic background.
  • Equity: We ensure fair access to resources, opportunities, and support—tailored to the individual needs of each student—by identifying barriers and fostering conditions for success.
  • Inclusion: We create welcoming environments where every person feels respected, supported, and empowered to contribute their ideas and perspectives.
  • Belonging: We cultivate a school culture in which all members feel accepted, valued, and connected.

3) Roles & Responsibilities

  • School Leadership: Integrate DEIB values into policies, strategic plans, and accountability measures.
  • Faculty & Staff: Participate in ongoing training, employ inclusive practices, and create classroom environments that reflect DEIB principles.
  • Students: Respect the differences of others and contribute positively to a culture of belonging.
  • Families & Community Partners: Engage in open dialogue, share diverse perspectives, and collaborate in advancing equity and inclusion.
